GAME IMPROVEMENT
GAME CHANGER
Driving range upgrades coincide with launch of new teaching academy
P
racticing your game at Indian
Wells Golf Resort is about to
get a whole lot better.
The driving range in the midst of a
major upgrade that will improve the
experience for golfers practicing or
warming up before their round, as
well as those receiving instruction
from the resort's PGA professionals
or attending The Academy at Indian
Wells Golf Resort.
"On the main range we've modified
and enlarged the hitting area," said
Director of Golf Joe Williams. "In the
past, our teeing area had three differ-
ent levels, which limited the number
of hitting stalls. The range has been
modified to two levels and this has in-
creased the teeing area quite a bit.
We envision five more hitting stations
and a deeper tee deck that will allow
the used grass more time to heal."
The resort is also improving the
teaching area at the back of the range
in anticipation of the new academy
that will launch in October, adding a
smaller practice green and an addi-
tional bunker for short-game instruc-
tion. Two other lesson tees are also
being created to allow for larger clin-
ics and instruction activities.
"This will be ideal for our Operation
36 Golf classes, Birdie Basic classes,
and will facilitate other instructional
programs," Williams said.
The improved area and dedicated
space will also help Indian Wells Golf
Resort grow its programs and cover
all areas of instruction in one location.
