THE COURSES
By Jonas Conlan, Director of Agronomy
T
he moment we've all
been waiting for has fi-
nally arrived: On Sep-
tember 3, both courses
at Indian Wells Golf
Resort will be back in action after
summer aerification.
While we just completed work
on the Players Course, the
Celebrity Course has been open
since July 30, and we're pleased
with the results on both layouts.
The Celebrity Course is in good
condition as the greens have been
picking up speed, the turf from tee
to green is outstanding, and the
course is playing fair.
Other than aerification, there are
still a number of projects we're
working on around the property,
including upgrades to the driving
range, the addition of landscaping
around the courses and the perime-
ter of the property, and the new
nursery green on the Celebrity
Course, which is coming in nicely.
All of our hard work on the golf
courses will be on display this fall
when Indian Wells Golf Resort
plays host to two events that will
include participants with an eye for
golf course conditions.
The Players Course will serve as
the host site of the local Hi-Lo
Desert Golf Course Superintend-
ents Association's annual Scholar-
ship, Research and Benevolent
Tournament in September, and the
Golf Course Superintendents Asso-
ciation of America will hold part of
its GCSSA Golf Championships on
the Celebrity Course in October.
I hope you enjoy the fruits of our
labors the next time you come out
to play. The season has gone by fast
and we're already discussing over-
seeding for this fall. How time flies!
