MEET THE TEAM T here is a commonly held belief in business that "you are only as good as your team," and fortunately, the team leading golf operations at Indian Wells Golf Resort is as experienced as they come. Director of Golf Joe Williams and Head Golf Professional Tom Burley ac- count for more than 40 years of com- bined experience at IWGR, and work so well together that the pair is nearly inseparable in their efforts to make every guest's experience second to none each time they visit. "Tom and I work hand in hand. We know each other's strengths and we are willing to help each other in any capacity," Williams said. Williams started at Indian Wells as an Assistant Golf Professional more than 26 years ago, moved into the Op- eration Manager role in 1999, became the Head Golf Professional role in 2002 and was named the Director of Golf in 2007. His responsibilities in- clude overseeing all golf operations, which includes the golf pro team, out- side service team, marshal team and merchandise team. "I take pride in getting to know my team members and finding out where they will excel in the operation," Williams explained. "I take great pride in watching our team succeed." Burley came to IWGR as an Assis- tant Golf Professional in 2008, was elected to PGA membership in 2012 and promoted to Head Golf Profes- sional in 2013. He manages the golf shop, which includes overseeing the golf professional team, day-to-day transactions, inventory, pace of play, payroll, outside services teams and course host team. "I love the atmosphere of the resort," Burley said. "I enjoy being around people who have one common goal: to play well and enjoy the day." Williams and Burley said they feel fortunate to work at a public facility that features 36 impeccably main- tained golf holes and that provide a memorable experience for golfers, whether it's their first time visiting or they play IWGR regularly. "There are two components that make us who we are," Burley said. "The first is that this facility is fantastic from arrival to departure, and the sec- ond and probably most important are the people.
