olf fitness expert
Katherine Roberts
has made it her
life's work to improve
golfers' ability to play
and enjoy the game.
Having picked up golf
at a young age herself,
Roberts began doing yoga recre-
ationally in 1999 and almost immedi-
ately jumped from a 28 handicap to a
16. It was then she developed a deep
connection with yoga and began
teaching it at nearby golf courses. She
quickly realized that she could create
a yoga program geared specifically to
golfers and their needs.
Yoga For Golfers was born, and
she's never looked back.
Roberts will debut the program at
Indian Wells Golf Resort beginning
January 26. The Yoga For Golfers
program is expressly designed to
strengthen and improve every aspect
of the swing.
"What we're doing is 100-percent
golf specific," said Roberts. "There is
zero yoga experience required, but
every student will see an increase in
their range of motion by about 20-40
percent after just the first class."
Yoga is the perfect complement to
golf because it focuses on enhancing
flexibility, improving mobility, in-
creasing strength, and achieving bet-
ter body symmetry and balance – all
of which will translate into better,
more powerful swings and an all-
around better golf game.
Players of all ages, abilities, and fit-
ness levels are welcome and encour-
aged to try Yoga For Golfers.
Classes begin with instructors
teaching dynamic warm-up exercises
for golf, and then the class walks
through various routines designed to
achieve the class objectives.
Lastly, the program will teach
golfers an effective stretching drills
for post-round exercises that will re-
duce any soreness.
"What we're teaching our students
about golf also translates instantly
into their life off the course," said
Roberts. "And the way we deliver
our methodologies, in modifying
poses, for example, ensures that re-
gardless of physical ability, golfers
will experience success."
