he Golf Shop at Indian Wells was recently named a 2017 Platinum
Award winner by the Association of Golf Merchandisers, an inter-
national association of golf-related merchandisers and vendors.
Considered the pinnacle of retail awards in the golf merchandising
industry, the honor recognizes the top 100 golf shops from the pri-
vate, public, resort and off-course sectors.
"The award speaks to the variety of merchandise that we carry, the
presentation of the merchandise and the way that it is displayed, and
the service level that we provide," said Joe Williams, Director of Golf at

T
he GolfBoard wave is catching on at
Indian Wells Golf Resort. Since being
introduced in October, the golf course
transportation vehicles, which resemble a
surfing or snowboarding experience, have
been a big hit on the fairways.
"We have them displayed in the golf shop
and get asked about them all the time," said
Director of Golf Joe Williams. "Everyone who
has used them has enjoyed the experience."
GolfBoard rentals are $35 each for 18 holes.
Indian Wells has four of the units so guests
are encouraged to book their rounds early to
ensure they're available. After registering and
watching a training video, golfers are ready
to surf the turf.
"It's a new way to see the golf course,"
Williams said. "It's seen as a recreational ac-
tivity along with the golf and I think it will
help bring new players to the game."
