W
ith the New Year fast ap-
proaching and the golf
courses in pristine condition
following fall overseed, now is the ideal
time to make sure you're ready for the
beautiful days ahead. Here are a few tips
from PGA Head Golf Professional Tom
Burley that will help get you prepared as
we head into the 2017 season.
Get back in the swing of things. Let's
enjoy our holiday meals, but once the
holidays are over, let's get exercising.
Golfers tend to swing the club better
when their body feels good and rotates
properly. Stretching your core will im-
prove your turn radius through the shot.
Re-grip your clubs. Having tacky new
grips will help you control the club dur-
ing the swing and build confidence. The
better the club feels in your hands, the
more the mind feels good about swing-
ing that club. The Golf Shop at Indian
Wells has a great grip selection for the
season; swing by to explore the options.
Get a new glove. A new glove will en-
hance the soft feel you get when grip-
ping the club. Holding onto the club
properly throughout the swing gives
you the best chance at a solid shot. A
new glove mixed with new grips should
give you a renewed freshness between
your hands and the club.
Change the soft spikes on your shoes.
Winter mornings can be chilly and leave
dew on the grass, which can sometimes
create slippery conditions. Having fresh
spikes on the bottom of your golf shoes
will allow you to stay connected with
the ground, giving you the best chance
at putting a quality swing on the ball.
Stay committed. Unlike most of our
New Year's resolutions that last about a
week, you should stay on top of being
prepared for a good round of golf all
year long. Motivate yourself to get out
there and continue to practice and stay
focused. A little commitment will go a
long way in this game.
