Sure, they'll still test every aspect of your ability if you hit into one of them, but after a renovation project planned for this summer they will be per- fectly pristine by fall when work on all 171 traps on the Players and Celebrity courses is scheduled to be completed. "The bunkers have been hit pretty hard by multiple big storms over the last cou- ple of years, including a microburst that hit the area last August," said Director of Agronomy Rick Menard. "Our mainte- nance team has done an exceptional job of repairing and keeping up the bunkers for optimal playability, but we thought it was time to do a complete refresh for all 36 holes." The project will begin Monday, June 13, on the back nine of the Celebrity Course. That work is scheduled to be completed by July 1. The back nine of the Players Course will be renovated next on July 5- July 22. The front nine holes of the Celebrity Course will follow suit on July 25-August 11, and the project will wrap up on the front nine holes of the Players Course from August 15-September 1. For each phrase of the project, the sand will be completely removed and each bunker will be re-lined with a new fabric liner. Once the liner is in place, all new sand will be added back in. "We aren't changing the look of the bunkers at all," said Menard. "This is sim- ply an opportunity to remove the existing sand and liners, some of which may have been damaged in those various storms, and replace it all." As an added benefit to golfers, Menard anticipates that the bunkers will be easier to play out of with newly secured liners and fresh sand. "We take a lot of pride in our course and put a lot of care into our bunkers," he said. "We're excited for this renovation project, and look forward to showing players the refreshed, completed bunkers this fall."
