ith Daylight Saving Time
comes longer afternoons
filled with sunshine – and
Indian Wells Golf Resort is now offer-
ing a special 36-hole rate for those up
to the challenge of playing two
rounds in a single day.
"Playing 18 holes of golf is usually
enough golf for one day," said Tom
Burley, PGA Head Golf Professional
at Indian Wells. "However, some-
times we visit a club that has two
great courses and plans only allow
for one day of golf. Whatever the rea-
son, if you are going to play 36 holes
in the same day, there are a few
things you can do to best prepare
yourself for the day ahead."
Here's what you need to know:
1
Make sure you get plenty of rest
the night before. Getting enough
rest can sometimes be difficult, espe-
cially if you have guests in town who
are excited to catch up over cocktails.
But getting enough sleep is key to
maintaining your stamina and alert-
ness during the day.
2
Eat something healthy for break-
fast and lunch, and stay hydrated
on the course. You want to make sure
you are eating and drinking enough
food and water before your first
round to provide the energy you will
need. You never want to overdo it
with a greasy giant breakfast or
lunch. You want to give your body
something it can handle throughout
the course of the day. Getting a light
lunch after the first round is great,
but you don't really want to sit down
for a lengthy period of time. If there
is a wait prior to the next round, roll
some putts or hit some chips, and do
everything you can to stay fresh
without over-exerting yourself. Con-
stant hydration or snacking is crucial
to staying upbeat and alert.
3
Remember it is going to be a long
day. Take it one shot at a time.
Keep in mind that there is plenty of
golf to play throughout the day. If
you hit a bad shot, try to put that in
the back of your mind and know you
have plenty of time to make it up
with lots of good shots. Staying on
the course for a long time can take a
toll on your mind, especially if your
mindset is a negative one. Embrace
the long day ahead – having a posi-
tive outlook on the day will help you
stay focused on your round.
