ndian Wells Golf Resort
will be hosting a regional
qualifying tournament
for the Troon Challenge this
year on Sunday, May 24, at
1 p.m.
The Troon Challenge
brings together amateurs
from across the country in a
two-person tournament for-
mat that combines
friendly competition
with top-notch golf,
via several regional
qualifying events
that culminate in a
final tournament in Au-
gust.
"The Troon Challenge
should attract a big field,"
said Mike Tebbetts, Director
of Sales and Marketing at In-
dian Wells Golf Resort. "That
means there will be great
competition, and all serious
golfers like to compete."
Regional qualifying tour-
naments for the Troon Chal-
lenge are held across the
country from April to Au-
gust. The event is a modified
best-ball (shamble) format, in
which each player hits a tee
shot, the team selects the best
drive and each player then
plays their own ball from that
point until it is holed. The
lower of the two scores is the
team score for the hole.
There will be two divisions
at each regional tournament,
a gross division and a net di-
vision. Players must sign up
for their desired division dur-
ing registration, and in order
to compete in the net division
each team member must be
able to verify their USGA
handicap.
Two teams from each re-
gional tournament — one
from the gross division and
one from the net division —
will qualify to participate in
the finals that are held at the
Troon North Golf Club in
Scottsdale, Ariz., on August
22–23, 2015.
Entry fee on the regional
level includes admission to
the tournament, two sleeves
of Callaway Chrome Soft golf
balls, and an official Imperial
Troon Challenge hat, as well
as automatic entry into a va-
riety of on-course contests,
such as the Closest to the Pin
and Longest Drive.
