A
full field of 28 teams com-
peted for a cache of prizes at
the inaugural Indian Wells
Pro-Am Invitational in late January.
"It was a resounding success for
participants and sponsors alike," said
Tournament Host Leven Shirey. "The
quality of the event sponsors allowed
us to offer a high-level experience
and great prizes for our players,
which included exceptional profes-
sional and amateur golfers."
The five-player teams included lo-
cals and visitors from as far away as
Canada competing on the Players
Course. Eleven of the teams took
home prizes that included rounds of
golf, equipment and getaways.
Former Oklahoma Sooner Jesse
Schutte shot a 66, winning the $3,000
first-place check and the Champion's
Conquest Award. His amateur team,
consisting of desert residents Henry
Chiang, Justin Steffens, Justin Kadin
and Joe Fryler, also captured first
place. They were each awarded a two-
night stay-and-play package at Wynn
Resort and Golf Club in Las Vegas.
Indian Wells Golf Resort PGA
pro Eric Solander took second place
in the professional field with a 67,
along with capturing two skins on
holes 3 and 6.
Bighorn Golf Club's Raenel Mark-
stein won the closest-to-the-pin con-
test on No. 12, and Jason Groshak
from Victoria Golf Course in British
Columbia hit the most accurate drive.
After a day of play, lunch and cock-
tails, participants were treated to an
awards reception.
Organizers already are planning
for the 2016 event, which will keep its
traditional placement of Super Bowl
weekend with the pro-am party on
Feb. 5 and the tournament on Feb. 6.
Sign-ups will begin this summer.
"As the Coachella Valley's premier
Pro-Am Invitational, we strive to de-
liver an experience unlike any other
for both the participants and spon-
sors," Shirey says. "And we are look-
ing forward to building on this solid
foundation for years to come."
