ACCOLADES JOE WILLIAMS NAMED GOLF PRO OF YEAR I ndian Wells Golf Resort's Joe Williams was awarded Golf Professional of the Year for 2013 as Troon Golf honored the "Best of the Best" during its annual Leadership Conference in January. In addition to Williams, Indian Wells Golf Resort was honored as a Troon "Rock Star" in the Grow The Game cat- egory for its leadership, customer satisfaction, and overall performance in that realm. DUEL IN THE DESERT The second annual Desert 2-Ball Challenge returns during April's Coachella festival T he first weekend of Coachella is April 11-13, a time when thousands of people will descend on the Coachella Valley for the annual music and arts festival, filling hotel rooms, restaurants and open spaces. So what's a golfer to do? The answer may very well be music to your ears: Play in the Desert 2-Ball Challenge. The second annual tournament is set to return on that same music-filled weekend, with three days of competition on three of the Coachella Valley's finest golf courses. "We wanted to appeal to those who were not inter- ested in attending Coachella, so we created this tourna- ment last year and it was a big success," said Michael Tebbetts, Director of Sales and Marketing at Indian Wells. Two-player teams will compete in a variety of formats on three of the region's most renowned tracks. The first day of competition kicks off at Indian Wells, where participants will partake in a scramble format on the Players Course. The second day is a better-ball com- petition on the Pete Dye Course at Mission Hills, and the finale features a shamble format at Classic Club, which will be followed by an awards banquet. The entry fee is $299 per player or $598 per team, and includes award prizes, tee gifts, and contests and more.
