EVENTS & OUTINGS Indian Wells Insider / Spring 2023 CHAMPIONSHIP SHOWDOWN Troon Challenge National Finals returning to Indian Wells T he Troon Challenge National Finals will return to Indian Wells Golf. Resort December 15-17. Sponsored by Callaway Golf, the Troon Chal- lenge is one of the largest amateur golf events in the United States, attracting more than 1,600 golfers each year. Two-person teams in both Net and Gross Divisions compete in regional qualifying events across 11 states from May to October at 34 facilities. The top teams from each re- gion then qualify for the National Finals, where they will compete for the champion- ship at Indian Wells Golf Resort. "It's exciting to launch our 21st year of the Troon Challenge and witness firsthand how popular this event has become," said Kris Strauss, Executive Vice President, sales and marketing, Troon. "We wish the thousands of amateur golfers who will compete in the re- gional qualifiers across the country the very best and hope to see them at Indian Wells Golf Resort in December." U nder normal circumstances, you don't want to put up big numbers at Indian Wells Golf Resort. But in the case of the 16th annual Stater Bros. Charities Jack H. Brown Heroes Challenge held at the re- sort on March 6, the attitude was the bigger the better. The event did not disappoint as it raised a record-breaking $1 million to- ward community initiatives in Southern California and beyond. "It was truly an honor to host this group of passionate individuals focused on rais- ing money and helping those in need both in our community and around the country," said Indian Wells Golf Resort General Manager Sven Wiedenhaupt. "We are always proactively seeking ways we can make a difference, and we look forward to hosting similar events like the Stater Bros. Charities Jack H. Brown Heroes Challenge in the future." More than 350 sponsors and special guests flocked to Indian Wells for the cause, including seven Congressional Medal of Honor recipients and 11 tour professionals. Among those in attendance were honorary tournament host Chairman Dave Stockton as well as Lee Trevino, Gary McCord, Donna Caponi-Byrnes and Brittany Lang. From the event, Stater Bros. Charities awarded a total of $310,000 to local non- profit organizations making a positive im- pact in Southern California. This included $50,000 each to the Congressional Medal of Honor Society, Michelle's Place Cancer Resource Center, Children's Fund, FIND Food Bank, Shoes That Fit, and C4 Foun- dation, and $10,000 to the Hunter Lopez Memorial Foundation. Stater Bros. Charities is a non-profit or- ganization that helps strengthen local communities by investing in causes with a focus on hunger relief, children's well- being, education, health, veterans and ac- tive service members, and pet well-being.
