T
he Celebrity Course at Indian Wells
Golf Resort has always been consid-
ered one of America's finest layouts.
It's always nice, however, when the
voting public confirms it.
In the 2023 rankings from NBC/Golf Chan-
nel's GolfPass, voters were asked to determine
the top 50 courses in the United States – and
the Celebrity Course came in at No. 28.
"It's an incredible feeling to know that real
golfers who played your course were instru-
mental in this ranking," said Director of Sales
and Marketing Ben Rodny. "I feel that any
club in the top 50 should be celebrating
the 'Golfers Choice' award."
The Celebrity Course is not only an excel-
lent test of shotmaking, it also boasts stunning
aesthetics. Color-drenched floral displays,
rock-lined lakes and majestic views of the
surrounding mountains make it a contender
in any beauty pageant of golf courses.
Admittedly, there are no mountains at
Augusta National, but the Celebrity Course
does remind many folks of the Masters venue.
The website havestixwilltravel.com published
an article in early April comparing 10 courses
that are like Augusta National – and the Celeb-
rity Course made the list.
"When Clive Clark laid out the Celebrity
Course, it was designed to be reminiscent of
classic courses such as Riviera and Augusta
National," said Rodny.
Naturally, to invite any comparison to the
storied Masters venue, you need exceptional
conditioning. The Celebrity Course holds its
own, with the course maintained to high
standards every day.
"It really comes down to our Director of
Agronomy Nick Leitner and his team of 40
agronomy professionals," said Rodny. "These
guys are up at 3:30 a.m. and they do the work
behind the scenes that really give IWGR the
conditions it is known for."
With positive publicity for the Celebrity
Course increasing, more first-time players will
inevitably want to give it a try. Rodny has some
tips to maximize the experience.
"The biggest piece of advice is that while
we are called a 'Golf Resort,' the Celebrity
is a golfer's course," he said. "I would rec-
ommend warming up on our Top Tracer Range
so that you can work out ball flight and speed,
especially if you are coming in from a higher
elevation. Perhaps spend some time with one
of our golf professionals going through the ins
and outs of the course. Then enjoy!"
