W
interfest festivities
began at Indian
Wells Golf Resort
on November 16 –
technically in autumn – but this would
have been a funfest in any season. Ice
skating on a genuine, specially con-
structed ice rink, laser putting as part
of the Shots in the Night entertainment
offerings and an exceptional treat, the
debut of Toptracer, made Winterfest
the hottest ticket in town.
Photo-ready, family friendly holiday
décor was splashed throughout the fa-
cility, including a 38-foot-tall Christ-
mas tree. And few winter traditions are
as enduring as ice skating, even in the
desert. On the Ice in the Desert skat-
ing experience, Director of Sales and
Marketing Ben Rodny put it in per-
spective: "What's not to love?"
For golfers, Toptracer was the smash
hit at Winterfest. Launched on Novem-
ber 14, Toptracer allows players to
download the app, hit from specially
accommodated bays, and use the
same ball-tracking technology that TV
networks employ to trace the pros'
shots, receive instant data, including
total distance, carry distance, ball
speed and launch angle. Shots are
recorded so that golfers can adjust
accordingly and compare results.
In addition, the app lets players of
all skill levels play virtual games and
compete against friends in the next
stall, or against new acquaintances
from anywhere in the state or country.
"To accommodate Toptracer, we
lengthened and widened our practice
range, which is now covered and
topped with solar panels," Rodny said.
"The range also features six-person
lounge sitting areas. There are 19 bays,
all equipped with Toptracer, plus dedi-
cated Academy spots. It's an excellent
instruction tool and also fun to use."
