TOURNAMENTS HANDLING WITH CARE Fall overseeding helps maintain top conditions I n order to maintain top-notch course conditions, Indian Wells Golf Resort takes its agronomy practices seriously. That said, the re- sort is currently in the midst of fall overseeding, a process that transitions the Celebrity and Players courses to a rye grass that offers ideal playing con- ditions for the winter months. The Players Course is already in the process and will reopen for play on October 13, while the Celebrity Course will be closed for overseeding October 16-November 3. As in year's past, the Celebrity course will be overseeded wall-to- wall, while the rough on the Players course will go dormant. "This gives the courses two distinct looks and the playing characteristics change a little bit from course to course," said Director of Golf Joe Williams. "We pay great attention to detail and the entire team has a pride of ownership in the property." ....................................................... > CLICK HERE to book tee times. NATIONAL TREASURE Troon Challenge Finals coming to Indian Wells G et ready for a holiday season treat: the Troon Challenge National Finals are coming to Indian Wells Golf Resort. It all started back in May with a series of regional qualifying tournaments held at Troon courses across the country and will culminate with the win- ners of those events competing in the two-person best-ball com- petition, which will take place December 9-11. "We will have 240 competitors joining us on the Players and Celebrity courses at Indian Wells Golf Resort and this is going to be an amazing experience," says Director of Golf Joe Williams. "Being played in December, this truly gives us an opportunity to showcase our beautiful property as the courses will be in wonderful condition and the atmosphere should be electric." The Welcome Party alone will be worth the trip for Troon Challenge participants. "Each competitor will receive a gift card to spend in our Top 100 golf shop," says Williams. "After that, the competitors will proceed outside to enjoy an exclusive expe- rience at Shots in the Night, with food spe- cially prepared by our Executive Chef." Competition will begin the following day, and for those who have made it this far, Williams has some keen insights as to how teams can best take on the courses. "On the Players Course, the fairway bunkers are very penal," he says. "Golfers should aim safely away from them, as it is difficult to reach the greens from those bunkers. The greens have subtle breaks and have a tendency to break toward Indio a bit more than the Celebrity greens do. "On the Celebrity Course, ball place- ment off the tee is key. The course isn't as long as the Players Course and hitting fair- ways is crucial for attacking the flags. I rec- ommend keeping the ball underneath the hole when approaching the greens." .................................................................... > CLICK HERE to learn more about the Troon Challenge National Finals.
