VISIT THE ACADEMY AT INDIAN WELLS GOLF RESORT
F
ollowing a full season of gathering
feedback from golfers, The Academy
at Indian Wells Golf Resort has
now begun implementing changes
to make the facility even more effective at
helping golfers of all skill levels improve
and get more enjoyment out of the game.
"With this being a brand-new undertak-
ing, we looked at the first year as
if it was a round of golf," Assistant
PGA Professional Bobby Farnham
explained. "And just like you'd do
on the golf course, we started
playing to our strengths."
This includes having one of
the top junior golf programs in
the state, as well as having been ranked as
high as fourth in the nation with the resort's
Operation 36 teaching program.
"We also have two world-class golf
courses that we love to use for our lessons,"
Farnham said. "This helps with transfer train-
ing and making sure golfers not only see re-
sults on the practice range during a lesson
but continue to see success when they
leave the lesson and go tee it up with their
golf buddies."
In addition, two state-of-the-art indoor
Trackman 4 simulators have helped golfers
of all abilities and learning styles progress
faster using video analysis, audio lessons
that are sent to golfers after their lesson,
and data on their progression.
One of the big changes of late at The
Academy is the creation of a custom build
and repair studio where the Indian Wells
Golf Resort team can fit multiple brands
with multiple shaft and club head options.
Custom clubs are created in house by
master club builder Nick Prud'homme, a
Golf Digest top 100 fitter and builder.
Other significant changes can be found
in the Academy's three-day golf school,
"Manifest 3-6-9," which offers a unique
approach to teaching. It is more play-based
than most schools and is focused on three
phases of the game, one each day. There also
is a team-based element where students pair
with a specific coach and compete through-
out the three days.
Farnham said The Academy team employs
a unique mindset when it comes to helping
students improve over the long haul.
"More so than in practically any other
sport, golfers tend to be armed with an over-
abundance of information," he says. "So The
Academy instructors focus on simplifying
their approach and putting golfers in position
to self-diagnose swing issues without over-
complicating things."
