Turn the Troon Challenge qualifier into a team weekend W ith four hotels located on the Indian Wells Golf Re- sort campus, teams that compete in the Troon Challenge qualifier on Friday, July 15, can eas- ily opt to turn the event into a fun staycation. For those who want to extend their trip dur- ing the qualifier and get in an extra round or two of golf, reserva- tions can be made at four nearby hotels – the Indian Wells Resort Hotel, Miramonte, the Renaissance Esmeralda Resort & Spa, and the Hyatt Regency Indian Wells Resort & Spa. .................................... C elebrating its 20th year, the Troon Challenge attracts more than 1,600 amateur golfers annually to compete in regional qualifying events across the coun- try from May through October. And this year, teams will be vying for one goal – to make it to the National Finals at Indian Wells Golf Resort December 9-11. In addition to the finale, a qualifying event will be held on the Celebrity Course at Indian Wells Golf Resort on Friday, July 15. Two-person teams will com- pete in a modified best ball (shamble), and the net and gross winners will earn the right to re- turn for the chance to compete for the national title. "When we started the Troon Challenge we had the goal of providing a fun, competitive, well-run golf event for amateur golfers from our Troon-affiliated facilities," said Kris Strauss, Execu- tive Vice President, sales and mar- keting, Troon. "Today, the Troon Challenge has grown into one of the biggest and best amateur golf events in the country. We're ex- cited to kick off the regional quali- fying events and look forward to the finals at beautiful Indian Wells Golf Resort in December." Entry fee for the qualifying event, which will begin with an 8 a.m. shotgun start, is $158 per two-player team and $110 per team for Troon Cardholders. The National Finals is a two- day event and will be played on the Celebrity and Players courses, which should be in wonderful condition, said Director of Golf Joe Williams. "All overseeding will have been completed by November 5, so we'll be playing under superb conditions in December," he said. "Players should make a vacation out of this trip!" TOURNAMENTS TEAM EFFORT! Troon Challenge qualifier, National Finals to take place at Indian Wells Regional qualifying will be held on the Celebrity Course.
