C
elebrating its 20th year,
the Troon Challenge
attracts more than
1,600 amateur golfers
annually to compete in regional
qualifying events across the coun-
try from May through October.
And this year, teams will be
vying for one goal – to make it to
the National Finals at Indian Wells
Golf Resort December 9-11.
In addition to the finale, a
qualifying event will be held on
the Celebrity Course at Indian
Wells Golf Resort on Friday, July
15. Two-person teams will com-
pete in a modified best ball
(shamble), and the net and gross
winners will earn the right to re-
turn for the chance to compete
for the national title.
"When we started the Troon
Challenge we had the goal of
providing a fun, competitive,
well-run golf event for amateur
golfers from our Troon-affiliated
facilities," said Kris Strauss, Execu-
tive Vice President, sales and mar-
keting, Troon. "Today, the Troon
Challenge has grown into one of
the biggest and best amateur golf
events in the country. We're ex-
cited to kick off the regional quali-
fying events and look forward to
the finals at beautiful Indian Wells
Golf Resort in December."
Entry fee for the qualifying
event, which will begin with an
8 a.m. shotgun start, is $158 per
two-player team and $110 per
team for Troon Cardholders.
The National Finals is a two-
day event and will be played on
the Celebrity and Players courses,
which should be in wonderful
condition, said Director of Golf
Joe Williams.
"All overseeding will have been
completed by November 5, so
we'll be playing under superb
conditions in December," he said.
"Players should make a vacation
out of this trip!"
