THE COURSES One of the interesting things about the overseed process at Indian Wells Golf Resort is that our courses are closed for only 18 days, while others can shut down from four to five weeks. In order to accomplish this, we have to be pre- pared and ready to go. The process begins during summer when we slow the growth of the Bermuda and cut the grass low. That way, when the courses close, we can seed them entirely in the first couple of days and immediately turn on the irrigation. We have schedules that sprinkle the seed with a couple minutes of water every one-to-two hours. This goes on 24/7 for the first few days, until the seed and soil become the perfect wetness, which will allow the seedlings to sprout in around five to six days. Around day eight or nine, we make our first mow. After that point, the water gets cut back, fertilizers get ap- plied, and we are off to growing winter ryegrass. Multiple mows occur over the next few days, then we prepare all the bunkers, put in new cups and flagsticks, and get the tee markers out where they belong. On Day 19, the course is ready for golfers. We're looking forward to an amazing season, and having golf groups return will be a sight for sore eyes. We're used to hosting large events and we look forward to shining and presenting Indian Wells Golf Resort to returning guests, residents, and any new players who come to visit our courses.
