T
he Players
Course at In-
dian Wells Golf
Resort is show-
ing its champi-
onship colors this month.
Designed by 1977 U.S.
Amateur champion John
Fought, the course served
as the site of the first and
third rounds for the South-
ern California Open Septem-
ber 1-3, and will also host
the Southern California PGA
Section Championship Sep-
tember 14-16.
Christopher Evans, a pro-
fessional from nearby
Bermuda Dunes who plays
on the PGA Latinoamérica
and PGA Europro tours,
went wire-to-wire to win the
Southern California Open
and the $14,000 winner's
check. He shot 19-under par
over 54 holes with rounds of
64, 64, and 69 to win by
three shots. Evans also won
the tournament in 2018.
One of the oldest profes-
sional events in Southern
California, the tournament
dates back to 1913, and has
been won by greats such as
Billy Casper, Gene Littler, Al
Geiberger and Ken Venturi.
At the Section Champi-
onship, Indian Wells Golf
Resort's Players Course will
serve as site of the first and
second rounds along with
the South Course at Iron-
wood Country Club, which
will host the final round.
PGA Life Member Jeff
Hart will look to defend his
2019 title and take home a
share of the $90,000 purse.
"It's a big golf course. You gotta get in to some of these pins
to be able to get short enough putts to shoot a low number."
– Christopher Evans, 2020 SoCal Open champion on the Players Course
