C
ompliments of a sizzling front nine, the
team flight at the 4th annual Indian
Wells Pro-Am Invitational was
claimed by a group uncertain that
its modest finish would hold up.
Hosted at the Indian Wells Golf
Resort's John Fought-designed
Players Course on Saturday, Feb. 3, a
net score of 111 (33-under) got the job done
for a three-shot win in the Pro-Am's team division.
"To be honest, when we saw the scoreboard at
the end, we were kind of shocked we won," said
David Fisher, assistant golf pro at Woodhaven
Country Club in Palm Desert and profes-
sional member of the winning squad.
Playing alongside amateurs Don
Saretsky, Zack Mcleod, John Meggio-
laro and Don Dieringer in the Two Best
Ball format, Fisher and his cast outlasted
27 other teams that paired four amateurs and
one professional.
For their efforts, the winning amateurs earned a
three-day trip to St. Augustine, Florida, with full
accommodations and two rounds of golf.
"I supported the team on nine holes, but the
guys really ham-and-egged it the rest of the way,"
added Fisher. "The front side we played really well
and the back we struggled a little bit, so it was re-
ally a tale of two nines. But with drink stations on
13 holes, well, nobody was having a bad day."
Enjoying a typically stellar afternoon on the
course was SCPGA legend Michael Block, who
won the Pro Flight with a 7-under 65 to grab the
a pleasant surprise
