The resort's maintenance staff will not overseed the rough on the Players Course, allowing the Bermuda grass to go dor- mant for the season and providing a unique look to the golf course, while also offering some savings on resources. "There will be about three months where you can see a big difference be- tween the rough and the fairways,"said Michael Tebbetts, Director of Sales and Marketing for Indian Wells Golf Resort. The look of the Players Course will be similar to what golf fans see on TV during the CareerBuilder Challenge in neighbor- ing La Quinta, with vibrant emerald tees, fairways and greens beautifully contrast- ing with the light brown rough. Tebbetts said the resort will seek feed- back from golfers on not only the look, but the playability of the course during December, January and early February – the short time frame when the Bermuda grass is expected to go dormant. "The playability of dormant bermuda rough, especially bermuda 419, is un- matched." Tebbetts said. "Additionally, this move allows us to continue to be en- vironmentally conscious with our re- sources and be good stewards of our habitat." The other benefit to golfers, Tebbetts said, is that once the golf course reopens following the fall overseed of the fair- ways, carts will not be required to stay on the paths. Players can drive to the edge of the fairway and walk to their ball. The Celebrity Course, which has less acreage of rough than its sister track, will be overseeded wall to wall as usual. Additionally, whereas last summer the maintenance staff kept busy renovating all the bunkers on both courses, the schedule for this offseason doesn't in- clude any significant projects. SURF THE EARTH LIMITED TIME LEFT TO RENT GOLFBOARDS O ne of the biggest hits of the season at Indian Wells Golf Re- sort was the introduc- tion of GolfBoards, those sleek, easy-to- ride, electric vehicles that transport you and your golf clubs around the course in an experi- ence similar to surfing or snowboarding. But if you haven't surfed the turf at Indian Wells yet, you'd better hurry as the GolfBoards will only be available for rental until the end of April and won't return again until November 1. Rentals are available for $35 per board, per 18-hole round, and can be reserved by calling the golf shop at (760) 346-4653. CLICK HERE for more information. CHANGE OF SCENERY Dormant Bermuda will soon give the Players Course a new look Fairways will be lined with dormant grass. THE COURSES
