T he Coachella Valley may be nearly 100 miles from the Pa- cific Ocean, but that doesn't mean you can't experience a little surfing in one of the golfing capitals of America. Since mid-November, golfers at In- dian Wells Golf Resort have been able to "surf the earth" on one of the re- sort's new GolfBoards. Indian Wells is now offering the boards on both its courses, allowing players to experi- ence golf in an entirely new way. "We're a leader in the industry in terms of innovation and technology, and since they're relatively new and have been so popular, we think it's a good way to give our guests another way to really enjoy the game," said Joe Williams, PGA Director of Golf at Indian Wells. While many golfers have caught on to the craze, for the uninitiated, Golf- Boards are the hot new trend in the golf world, and they appear to be here to stay. GolfBoards can now be found at more than 200 golf courses worldwide. Golfers have found that playing a round on a GolfBoard provides an entirely new way to enjoy the game. Courses that offer them often gain a competitive advantage over other nearby tracks because players want to experience what all the buzz is about, and once they've played a round using a GolfBoard, they want to do it again and again. "It's another amenity to add to what we offer," Williams said. "We have a lot of out-of-town guests, and the GolfBoard is maybe something that's not offered at their home club, so they want to try it out." SURFInG tHE FaIRWaYS GolfBoards come to the Players and Celebrity courses, offering a fresh new approach to the game SURF THE EARTH HERE'S HOW IT WORKS A n alternative to the traditional golf cart, golfers ride GolfBoards just like skateboards, with their golf bags at- tached to the front. They can take them nearly anywhere on a golf course, and with varied terrain, there's just as much fun to be had be- tween shots as there is with a club in your hand. At Indian Wells, using one of the re- sort's four GolfBoards will add $35 to a player's green fee, and players will be re- quired to undergo a short training session before being sent out to use one for the first time. > CLICK HERE to learn more.
