ArOuND ThE grEEN BIg rEwArD fOr rESIDENTS L iving in the Coachella Valley has its benefits this time of year. One is reduced green fees for residents at Indian Wells Golf Resort. From now through April 30, 2017, coachella valley residents can book tee times 48 hours in advance for $89 Sunday-Thursday on the top-ranked Players and Celebrity courses. All residents have to do is show a picture identification and one of the following forms of residency to receive the rate: a Palm Desert Resident Card, a Rancho Mirage Resident Card, a La Quinta Resident Card or a Classic Club Coachella Valley Resident Card. Reservations must be made by calling the golf shop at (760) 346-4653. ••••• cOMpETE fOr $10K!: The Indian wells pro-Am Invitational is set for February 3-4, 2017. Amateurs and professionals will battle it out in an 18-hole event on the Players course, where professionals will have a chance to win a share of a $10,000 cash purse. Amateurs will compete for major prizes from event sponsors. Golfers can purchase 10 pre-paid rounds of golf for $950 that can be played now through Dec. 25. cLIcK hErE to learn more. ••••• COURSE MAINTENANCE UPDATE: Work continues this fall on the golf courses at Indian Wells. The Celebrity Course will re-open on Oct. 13, and the Players course will close from Oct. 16-Nov. 3. Both courses are undergoing fall overseeding. cLIcK hErE for course conditions. W hile the Americans and Europeans were doing battle in the Ryder Cup last month, another group of golfers were com- peting in a similar tourna- ment at Indian Wells Golf Resort – with one arm. A team from North Amer- ica and a team from Europe competed in the Fightmas- ter Cup at Indian Wells Sept. 22-24, a biennial event that features 24 of the top one-armed golfers compet- ing in a Ryder Cup-style format. Unlike the real Ryder Cup, the Europeans won this event 15-13 over the American team, which is put together by the North American One-Armed Golfer Association.
