he regional qualifying tourna-
ments for the 2016 Troon Chal-
lenge have officially begun, with the
regional qualifier at Indian Wells Golf
Resort set to take place on Sunday,
June 5. The friendly amateur tourna-
ment will be held on the Celebrity
Course with a shotgun start
at 7:30 a.m.
The two winning teams,
one gross and one net,
will be eligible to partici-
pate in the Troon Challenge
National Finals on Sept. 10-11
in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Participants will compete in a
modified best-ball shamble, in
which each player hits a tee shot
and then plays their own ball in after
selecting the best shot off the tee.
The lower of the two scores is the
team score for the hole.
Cost to participate in the regional
qualifier is $170 per two-person
team ($160 for Troon cardholders),
and that includes green fees, cart,
practice balls, on-course contests,
tee gifts, and prizes.

he 2016 Desert Two-Ball Chal-
lenge, held April 15-17 at three
top Coachella Valley courses,
crowned champions in six divisions
among 108 competing participants.
The event featured two-player teams
facing off in different formats at Troon
Golf-managed desert properties – the
Pete Dye Course at Westin Mission
Hills Golf Resort and Spa in Rancho
Mirage, Classic Club in Palm
Desert, and The Players
Course at Indian Wells Golf
Resort.
"The 2016 Desert Two-
Ball Challenge was a great
success," said Mike Tebbetts,
Director of Sales and Mar-
keting at Indian Wells,
"with a field that enjoyed
competing at three great
Coachella Valley courses."
Winning teams included
Joe beckerle and steve Ya-
vorsky, who took first place
in the gross division with a
score of 206, while blake and al
bertrand bested lance and James vick-
ers for the runner-up spot in a cardoff
after each team finished at 209.
In the net division, Gino reopel and
Joe larrivee won the title with a score
of 175, while Paul Watson and steve
Mathews finished a shot back at 176.
ken Jeffrey and dave Thomson took
third place with a score of 177.
