I always get nervous right before I
tee off. what are some ways for me to
overcome first tee jitters?
This is very common for golfers of
all skill levels. The further the round
goes on, the more we seem to ease up
and begin to relax. However, as we
all know, that opening tee shot can be
a bit nerve-racking.
Having a routine prior to the start
of the round will always help provide
some sort of calm, and sticking to
what you feel comfortable doing be-
fore the round will help as well.
End your warm-up session with
the club that you will be hitting off of
the first tee and make sure you hit a
few good ones and get some confi-
dence for the opening shot. In his
prime, Tiger Woods was known for
making sure he hit several good balls
with his opening tee shot club before
each round.
I never have time to go to the driv-
ing range before a round, and it al-
ways takes me a few holes to loosen
up. what can I do to get loose in five
minutes right before my tee time?
If you do only have five minutes,
there are a few basic golf stretches
you can do to help you get familiar-
ized with what the body's intentions
are going to be for the day. You want
to make sure to stretch your core, or
trunk, of your body.
Stand in a golf posture and act as if
there was a ball in front of you. Put
your feet about shoulder-width apart
and do some trunk twists. As you
turn back and turn through, start re-
leasing your right heel off the ground
to abbreviate a weight transfer into a
finish position.
You will also want to loosen up
your arms for a minute or two. Grab
two different irons, hold them to-
gether as one club, and begin swing-
ing both clubs at the same time.
Using two clubs will add weight and
begin to stretch out your arms and
shoulders.
