A TEE
TIME
A
s golfers, we're al-
ways trying to hit it
farther, knock it
closer, and make more putts.
And we're always looking for
new ways to get better and
increase our knowledge of
the swing and the game.
To consistently improve,
golfers can benefit greatly
from a second set of eyes –
and routinely seeking the aid
of a PGA teaching profes-
sional can make a big
difference when it
comes to shooting
lower scores.
But just showing
up to a lesson doesn't
guarantee success. Here
are a few tips from Tom Bur-
ley, PGA Head Golf Profes-
sional at Indian Wells Golf
Resort, to help you make the
most out of your lessons so
that your time and money
will be well worth it.
>> Take more than one
lesson.
Taking a series of at
least three to five golf lessons
will allow you to address
most aspects of your game,
rather than just one specific
topic. To noticeably improve
your scores, you are going to
want to work on all areas of
your game, from the full
swing and the short game to
how to manage the course.
>> Allow for practice.
When scheduling your golf
lessons, plan on setting aside
enough time to practice be-
fore your next session.
Going to the range a few
times in between lessons is
always recommended, as you
want to get the most out of
your instruction by learning
through repetition.
>> Practice with a purpose.
The more time you spend
with an instructor, the more
you will learn about your
strengths and weaknesses.
This will give you clear direc-
tion on the areas of your
game you need to focus and
improve on.
Having lessons geared to-
ward specific parts of your
game will allow you to prac-
tice and strengthen those in-
dividual aspects.
