M ore distance is something every golfer would like to add to their game. There are many factors involved in hitting the long ball, here are a few: CHOOSE THE RIGHT EQUIPMENT When selecting a driver, pick one that has high launch and low spin. You want the ball to stay in the air for a long time and hit the ground running when it lands, and reducing spin on your tee shots will allow the ball to roll much farther down the fairway. Too much sidespin will result in the ball running left or, for the most of us, to the right once it lands. FIND THE CENTER OF THE CLUB FACE The "sweet spot" is what we are looking for when hitting the driver – which is in the center of the club face. Technology is improving every year and drivers are being developed with larger sweet spots to make it easier to find. Using face tape will allow you to see where you are making impact. The farthest shots are struck directly in the center of the club face. TRANSFER YOUR WEIGHT Too often golfers deliver their driver to the ball off of their back foot. When hitting your driver, make sure your weight transfers and you are deliver- ing the club into the ball with your weight shifting to the front foot. ACCELERATE THROUGH IMPACT AND COME INTO A FULL FINISH Always remember to swing through the ball and not at the ball. Accelerat- ing the club through impact is a sure way to not decelerate. By swinging through the ball, this should help you transfer your weight and bring you to a full finish. Finishing the swing is the best way to feel the weight move to the front side and you are less likely to quit on your swing. Now is the time of year when new drivers are hitting the market.
