A TEE
TIME
Longtime assistant pro is now the new Head PGA Professional at Indian Wells
I
f you haven't done so al-
ready, the next time you see
Tom Burley at Indian Wells,
be sure to congratulate him.
The longtime as-
sistant pro was
promoted to
Head PGA Golf
Professional at
the end of last
year and has
been putting his
Renaissance man
skills to good use.
"My job is to ensure
day-to-day operations flow
smoothly," says Burley. "That
means guest check-in, collecting
green fee revenues, managing
the tee sheet, monitoring pace
of play, and teaching lessons."
How has your career in golf
led you to Indian Wells? I had
previously been working at a
private club in San Diego and
when given the opportunity to
come to this facility, it was a no-
brainer.
What do you enjoy about
working at Indian Wells? The
people, the atmosphere, and the
golf courses.
What is your greatest
strength on the job? Guest and
staff relations. I have the ability
to put people at ease and come
up with a solution to the prob-
lem at hand.
What one word would you
use to describe yourself?
Personable.
What are you most proud of?
I am proud to be where I am
today. I am proud to have a
supportive family who has al-
ways been there along the way.
What might someone be sur-
prised to know about you? I
have a twin brother who could
probably show up for work for
me and not one person would
know the difference.
What words or phrase do you
most overuse on the golf
course? I tend to say "be good"
when I have hit a nice shot into
the green.
What is your most treasured
possession? In life, family and
friends. In the golf world, my
putter.
What is your motto on the
golf course? It's never over 'til
it's over. Golf is so unpredictable
and things can happen in an in-
stant when you least expect it.
What's your favorite thing
about the game of golf? No two
days are ever the same.
Who would be in your dream
foursome? Myself, my twin
brother, my dad, and my
grandpa all at Augusta.

HAVE A PRESHOT ROUTINE
A
pre-shout routine will help you
to see your shot before you hit it.
Visualizing where you want your ball
to go will help you commit to the
shot you are wanting to hit. Always
try to have a pre-shot routine that
calms the nerves and puts confi-
dence in between the ears.
