A TEE
TIME
By Joe Williams, Director of Golf,
and Jonas Conlan, Director of Agronomy
W
hen Indian Wells Golf Resort re-
opened for play on April 24 fol-
lowing a mandated month-long
closure, golfers returned to find both courses
in very good shape from tee to green thanks
to ongoing maintenance during the hiatus.
During the time both the Celebrity and
Players courses were closed, our agronomy
team continued with daily cutting of the
greens, along with mowing the tees, collars,
approaches and fairways a few times a week.
We also completed a minor spring aerifica-
tion of the greens that involved punching,
verticutting and lightly top dressing the put-
ting surfaces to allow air and nutrients into
the soil.
Other work included trimming of the trees
on both courses, as well as shearing the teco-
mas on Players Course and bougainvillea on
the Celebrity Course. Bunker work included
edging of the traps and pushing sand back
up to the perimeters.
Speaking of the sand traps, due to safety
precautions we have removed the rakes and
golfers may encounter foot prints from time
to time. Be assured that we will be doing our
best to get out there and take care of them.
It's a process, but they will be cared for and
looked after.
Additional work that will be completed
soon includes the sprucing up of the wild-
flower areas as well as the annual beds.
All things considered, it's a great time to
play golf at Indian Wells Golf Resort and we
look forward to seeing you soon!
