SHOTS IN THE NIGHT
I
n its first year offering nighttime
golf entertainment, Indian Wells
Golf Resort's Shots in the Night
was a shining success.
The new attraction received ample
group play and steady walk-up busi-
ness, and year two gets under way on
Thursday, October 17, with more put-
ting game laser fun, driving range glow
golf, cocktails, and dining from the re-
sort food truck set to run through early
June of 2020.
A review of the inaugural go-around
resulted in off-season improvements,
which include better lighting, enhanced
seating options on green surrounds,
and a concerted effort to better steward
the grounds.
"We got rid of a lot of unnecessary
grass, which cuts down on a lot of wa-
tering," said Matt Balesteri, Director of
Night Golf at Indian Wells Golf Resort.
"We also added rock paths and new
plantings, which add to the ambiance."
A new putting green game will also
enhance the action.
"We added a game called 'Last Man
Standing,' which is a pretty basic but
really fun game, especially for groups,"
Balesteri said. "A large circle is pro-
jected on the middle of the green, and
everybody gets around the circle and
putts in; if you get into the circle, you
stay in the game and the circle shrinks
in size for each ensuing round."
In concert with adding Last Man, the
Shots in the Night team simplified scor-
ing for some of the other putting
games.
"We've streamlined the entire pro-
gram to make it easier to play the
games, as well as the scoreboard sys-
tem," Balesteri said. "It's now a lot eas-
ier for guests to understand without
having to go back to the rules."
