COursE rEpOrT
can be tricky because we still have quite a bit of cool-
season Ryegrass hanging around. Behind the scenes
this month, we'll begin looking at the calendar
and counting down the days until we can start
the process of aerifying the courses to prepare
for the transition beginning in late June.
This preparation can be done several differ-
ent ways; we usually begin by pulling out
plugs from the turf grass, which ultimately
helps with the transition. During June and July we
will be focusing on these efforts, which ultimately
prepare the Players and Celebrity courses for our
annual fall overseeding.
Currently, the layouts are in great shape as we
begin this transition process, and if you've been out
to play lately you've probably seen the blooms on
some plants and trees such as the Jacarandas with
their beautiful purple flowers. There also are bushes
such as Leucophyllum frutescens (Texas Rangers) and
Caesalpinia pulcherrima (Mexican Bird of Paradise)
that are showing flowers. Certain areas of wild flow-
ers have bloomed as well and as a result we will be
thrashing them down to allow summer plants to
grow in. This also is the time of year that we begin
trimming bushes in the landscape areas, which helps
with maintenance and sustainability.
From the golf operations side during May, the
property is always welcoming for golfers to come
play and take advantage of the great weather and
turf conditions. Our part-time guests to the Valley
head home soon, and there are still opportunities to
get out and enjoy some great golf.
Hope to see you out on the course!
