MINT CONDITION Courses flourishing as peak season gets under way A s the weather cools down and the influx of winter residents flock to the Coachella Valley from Canada and other colder climates, golf course conditions couldn't be better on the Players and Celebrity courses at Indian Wells Golf Resort. With both tracks having been overseeded in September and October, cart-path only re- strictions have been lifted as of late November, and playing conditions are optimal heading into the busiest time of the year. "The courses are in top shape as we approach the holi- day season," said Jonas Conlan, the Director of Agronomy at In- dian Wells. "Our entire mainte- nance staff should be recognized for their great work and continued dedication to making the resort a wonderful place to visit and play golf." In the world of golf course maintenance and agronomy, the workload is often dependent on varying weather conditions, and that has certainly been the case this year. Conlan and his staff had to tinker with irriga- tion schedules due to higher- than-normal temperatures throughout the summer and fall, and a significant rain storm washed out some newly seeded areas on the property – but for- tunately the golf courses weren't affected. "Every year is a bit different with overseeding because Mother Nature rarely brings you the same conditions from year to year," Conlan said. "All in all, things went well." Looking ahead, Conlan said he'll continue to focus on land- scaping projects throughout both courses. Since he arrived at Indian Wells nearly two years ago, Conlan and his team have made strides, and they recog- nize that's it's a marathon, not a sprint. "Sometimes you have to take a few steps back in order to go forward, and I feel that's a good explanation of what we're try- ing to do with many of these areas," Conlan said. "Our end goal is to get them all looking much better." .................................................................... >> CLICK HERE to view complete weather and course conditions.
